Sweat, Hydration & Fuelling with Leigh Archer

Sweat more than everyone else? Finish rides with white salt marks on your kit? Or never quite sure how much you should actually be drinking?

Hydration can get complicated quickly once rides get longer, temperatures rise or you're preparing for a bigger event. The difficult bit is that what works for one rider may be completely wrong for another.

On Friday 9 October, Leigh Archer joins us at Port Velo for a relaxed evening looking at sweat, hydration and fuelling for cyclists.

Meet Leigh

Leigh is a Bristol-based High Performance Triathlon & Endurance Coach with almost 20 years of coaching experience across elite sport, Ironman, ultra and endurance events.

He is a British Triathlon National Performance Coach of the Year Award winner and, for the past three years, has also been running sweat testing across Bristol and Bath as a Precision Fuel & Hydration Sweat Testing Centre.

What we'll cover

We'll look at some of the things many riders struggle to get right, including:

  • why some riders lose considerably more sodium than others
  • the difference between being a heavy sweater and a salty sweater
  • what white salt marks on your kit might be telling you
  • hydration for longer rides, warmer weather and harder events
  • how hydration and fuelling work together
  • how to build a practical hydration strategy for training and event days

See a live sweat test

During the evening Leigh will carry out a live Precision Fuel & Hydration sweat test on one of our riders.

You'll be able to see how the test works, what it measures and, importantly, how the result can be turned into something useful when you're actually out riding.

Bring your questions

This is intended to be a relaxed and interactive evening rather than a lecture. There'll be plenty of time for Q&A, so bring the hydration and fuelling questions you've never quite managed to get a straight answer to.

Leigh will also talk through some of the free PF&H planning tools available, and there'll be an opportunity to try some Precision Fuel & Hydration products during the evening.

Pizza and a drink afterwards

Once we've finished talking sweat, sodium and fuelling, we'll have pizza and a beer or soft drink.

Your £10 ticket includes the full evening, PF&H product sampling, pizza and one beer or soft drink.
